Frozen Feet and Hot Pies in Sydney’s Inner West

Dobroyd Aquatic Club Winter Series 2014

The pies were hot, the beers were cold, the race committee were rugged up on the deck of the club, from where they start all the races, regardless of wind direction, which certainly makes it easier to get volunteer race officials.

The final afternoon of the DAC Winter Sailing was a hypothermia-inducing 10 to 25 knot Sou-Wester and a fitting end to a windy and mostly sunny series. With around 15 sailboard entries plus Tasers, Spirals, Herons and Optimists, there was plenty of action on the water for the four afternoons that made up the series. Windsurfer class stalwarts Martin Stone and Roger Crawford gave the race-boarders a run for their money on the gusty days, while Karen Murden just wished she had got around to buying some booties to keep her feet warm. An excellent way to shake off the winter cobwebs!

Windsurfer One Design results: (1) Martin Stone, (2) Roger Crawford, (3) Karen Murden.
