Twilight Racing @ Middle Harbour Begins

Last Friday evening, 10 October, was a great start to the season for summer windsurfing at the MH16ft Skiff Club.
Week 1 saw some close racing in a gusty 6-12 knot nor’easter. The water was still a little cold but that didn’t stop some decent argy bargy on the start line and some great viewing from the bar balcony. 3 windward leeward races were held with positions changing often up the shifty beats.
Race 1 saw good starts from Harrison West and Jamie Hargrave but the gusty and shifty work was difficult, leaving some competitors in holes while others were full powered up. Downwinds were also tricky in the gusts, and with winter cobwebs not fully out, there were plenty of dropped sails. Race 1 eventually went to Dave West, then Andrew Vacopoulos and Matt “Russian” Ivshenko.
In Race 2 Shaun Connor held a great lead at the top mark after going right and from then on duelled with Matt Ivshenko up the next work and all the way to the finish, with Matt just pipping Shaun on the line.
Race 3 was also close with Matt just ahead of Dave West and a fast finishing Andrew V.
Next week we are expecting a much larger and even more star-studded fleet – with plenty of larger competitors.
Thanks goes to Paul Hargrave who very ably manned the start boat and Phil West for his big horn and recording results.
