Dobroyd Aquatic Club

The Dobroyd Aquatic Club is located on the grounds of Rodd Point Park within Iron Cove, Sydney. The car parking is currently unmetered.

Suitability for Beginners To Be Rated

Iron Cove is suitable for beginners (Third day, onwards). The Cove is relatively shallow around Rodd Point and offers smooth water sailing. There is minimal tidal movement. The Cove is for all practical purposes enclosed and there is a footpath loop around the foreshore. The shores on both sides of Rodd Point are sandy however the majority are  rocky with oysters, so footwear is essential.

Typical Windsurfing Program

Dobroyd Aquatic Club has a Raceboard Class fleet. Racing is Saturdays. Windsurfer racing was carried out in the past and may start again if sufficient numbers are obtained.

Twilight sailboard racing is carried out in association with Dobroyd Aquatic Club during Daylight saving hours, on Wednesdays. The twilight race has a handicap start and the fleet is a mix of Windsurfers and Raceboards. The Evening typically concludes with pizzas at a local restaurant. The typical program is as follows:

  • <6pm – Rigged and ready to race
  • 6-6:15pm – Briefing and awards for placings from previous week’s race
  • 8pm packed up and head to Toto’s Pizza

Suitability for Beginners To Be Rated

Middle Harbour is most suitable for intermediates and onwards but beginners are always welcome and encouraged. The majority of the shores around middle harbour are sandy beaches and are great for sailing in a southerly or a strong nor’easter out to Balmoral or Washaway Beach and back.

Typical Windsurfing Program

To be confirmed but windsurfer racing will be on Saturdays for the 2017-18 season.

St George Sailing Club

Located in the southern Sydney suburb of Sans Souci.

Saturday afternoon racing is held out the front of the club.  There is a strong raceboard fleet and a couple of Windsurfer One Design sailors who keep the raceboarders honest as well as sitting-down sailing including NS14s, Moths and 16′ Skiffs.

There are generous sandy launching beaches, shallow areas for learning and great views from the bar.
