Balmoral Sailing Club

There is a Windsurfing revival going on at Balmoral Beach since the hugely successful Windsurfer Class Nationals 2017 held in January at Balmoral Sailing Club.

2017 Nationals Race Start Line

National Windsurfer Class Championships, Balmoral, January 2017

Balmoral Sailing Club has club racing on Saturdays at the southern end of beautiful Balmoral Beach. Turn up at 12:00 pm. Briefing is at 12:45 pm upstairs in the Club house and racing starts at 2:00 pm. There can be 1-3 races depending on conditions and courses, which are run for all classes, with their own starts. There is a windsurfer One Design division and a Formula Windsurfer Class Division. Other boards are welcome to come and sail with us especially Race-Boards, Bic Techno 293s (youth) and RSX, the Olympic class.

Our sailing season commences on the 9th of September (2017) and continues through until the 19th of May 2018. You can race with us with the first three (3) times for free, as long as you sign the visitor’s book and sign on as well. If you wish to join, you can do so by looking up Balmoral Sailing Club online under membership or by contacting the Windsurfer Class Captain Melanie Webb at windsurfing@balmoralsc.com.au. Melanie is happy to assist you through the process. You are also welcome to just come and windsurf for fun. Some enjoy bringing their extended families and make a picnic of it. The kids love to windsurf, kayak, climb trees, and jump off the baths jetty into deep water with a pile of other kids.

Balmoral Beach Windsurfing

We are looking to grow windsurfing at a Club and at Interclub level, creating a fun learning and competitive atmosphere. We plan on reintroducing twilight races, increase the social side of windsurfing with after racing BBQs each week, having point scores and trophies and developing interclub traveling regattas. BBQs are held upstairs on the Clubhouse veranda, often enjoying refreshments at Sunset It’s a fantastic group of sailors and a very welcoming Club.

Balmoral Sailing Club have welcomed the windsurfers with open arms, supported the windsurfer class, developed racking to facilitate storage for windsurfers, created class flags with improved visibility, allowed the windsurfers to determine our own course racing, created a separate marathon for windsurfers which don’t cross the ferry lanes, supported the youth Bic/ Windsurfing traveling regatta, and looking to purchase a RIB for youth sailing and windsurfer rescues. We also have a club demo board for racing that can be booked through Melanie.

Learning to Windsurf on Balmoral Beach

Balmoral Water Sports a sailing school and sailing/ windsurfing hire business is located downstairs in the club. One can hire a board or take lessons with the added comfort of having someone watch your safety and ability to rescue you if required. They have extremely keen and experienced windsurfing instructors.

We look forward to meeting you, sailing with you, racing with you and socializing with you. If we can help in any way to get you back into windsurfing, back into racing or get into windsurfing let us know. We are only too happy to help 🙂

The parking around the Oval and Sailing Club is metered, however there is a drop-off bay at the Club and parking is available relatively close by, refer to the following map.
